A Note About ARCs

Copyright message conceptA NOTE ABOUT ARCs. This makes me sad, but I don’t know if I’m going to offer ARCs anymore and here’s why. A cardinal rule was broken–someone took the ebook and posted it online, which is a horrible thing to do. It’s pirating, and it’s NOT legal to distrube free copies. ARC ebooks were for ‘your eyes only’ which was exclicitly stated.

Guys, I’ve been thinking about how to handle this. I know who did it, and, yes, I could post their name and publically yell at this person, but that doesn’t fix the problem. Other authors have stopped giving eARCs all together. I really didn’t want to punish the good people because of a few bad folks, but this has happened more than once.

Distrubing ARCs is a lot of work and is a nice thing to do for fans who love my books and want to leave reviews, but when stuff like this happens it leaves me wondering if I should continue to offer them. So, I’m giving it another chance and changing the way my ARCs are done. Keep an eye out.

And if you see someone posting an author’s book online for free, tell them that they are a complete asshat and that copyright fines are freakin’ expensive (up to $250,000). If you’d like to see more info on copyright, please visit: http://www.copyright.gov.

  1. That’s too bad that someone is so selfish to do this. I support whatever you decide about the ARCS. I think you should pursue action against this person. Thank you for the time you’ve shared your life’s work with me.

  2. Wow! So sorry to hear. You did state the requirements and rules. I am glad that you know who did it. It is a shame that the good people have to pay for the bad ones. I look forward to your new rules. I hope you have a list of your good arc reviewers so we don’t get impacted. : )

  3. Well this is really sad to hear that someone would violate your trust in such a horrible way. I personally am really honoured to have received a few ARC. Please don’t stop them, I know it’s not a great feeling but we are really look forward to the opportunity.

  4. This saddens me … I love getting ARCS from you but what saddens me is the trust that has been broken and the person who done it not respecting you enough to do this … I completely understand what you may have to do … I will buy the books regardless if I get an ARC or not .. I love everything you write and think you’re amazing … With that said I stand behind whatever decision you make !!! You are one amazing person and author ……

  5. Sooo sorry this is happening!! What about you picking a “select few” Ferro loving “professional” ARC reviewers that you have had a good experience with and know you can trust?? I’m sure we all understand if you need to cut it all together and I personally respect what ever you come up with. I hope they don’t stop ;(
Good luck & here’s to hoping Karma bites the party poopers in their pooper!!

  6. I completely agree with you that it is unconscionable that someone would usurp your position as author and publish you work without permission. There are those who don’t grasp the concept of copyrighted work and continue to banty about other’s work. Good for you for making a stand. I support you whole-heartedly.
